Client: Boom Learning

Michael has a unique strategy that works very well. He wasn’t sure if he was going to be able to secure us placement, and he was honest about that. In the end, we were extremely pleased.

The Project

In December 2021, Boom Learning approached mediator about raising awareness of its Boom Cards education technology platform.

The Pitch

During an in-depth interview with Boom Learning co-founders Mary and Eric Oemig, we uncovered a number of newsworthy PR angles. Most notably, Mary revealed that she worked as a copyright attorney for the pioneering music sharing platform Napster. Mary adapted Napster’s user generated content (UGC) strategy to build Boom Cards. Similarly noteworthy was Eric’s former tenure as a Washington State Senator in charge of the state’s education committee.

The Placements

We booked interviews for the Oemigs with the national tech publication GeekWire and Seattles’ NBC and ABC news stations. GeekWire ran a profile about Boom Cards (which you can read here) while NBC and ABC aired TV segments about the Oemigs’ company (watch here and here).

Additionally, we arranged a profile of Boom Learning in the national industry publication Government Technology, which you can read here; an interview on the tech blog Geek Culture, which you can read here; and an interview on the regional Washington State radio station KSVR 91.7 FM.
